The nuclear missile base in the middle of a Lithuanian forest

On our way from Klaipeda to Riga we passed by the Zemaitija National park with its main village/ small town Plateliai. This gave us the opportunity to visit an old Soviet nuclear missile base in the middle of the National park, that now a days serves as a cold war museum.

Being at this quiet place in the middle of this forest is so peaceful, its hard to imagine and also quite disturbing to know, that this was a place where four nuclear missiles were stored during the Cold War, ready to destroy Western Europe. Today the interesting museum inside the nuclear missile base takes you back to the times of the Cold War and offers you an unique insight on this war of two ideologies. Besides that it surely serves as a reminder for the mankind where to such a mindset can lead.
